How To Choose The Sunglasses A-List Celebs Are Loving For Your Face Shape

Having a pair of trusty sunglasses in Singapore is a must-have. The thought of having that blazing sun in my eyes, oh hell nah. Plus, sunnies are a fashionable accessory that can liven up your outfit or even cover those eye bags after a lit Friday night. At The WYLD Shop, we are huuuge fans of a groovy pair of sunglasses and our favourite eyewear brand has got to be Le Specs.

Le Specs Eyewear

As French at Le Specs may sound, the eyewear brand was actually born down under on the coast of Bondi Beach back in 1979. The main goal of the brand was to create innovative and quality eyewear pieces with an affordable price tag and that it has. With its ability to keep up with the trends, Le Specs has boosted in success since the 80s and has gained a cult following, boasting 234,000 followers on Instagram

Not just trendy, their eyewear pieces are made with high-quality protection with lenses that filter out 100% UVA/UVB/UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm. We won’t expect less from a sunglasses label born in Australia, a country with one of the world's highest UV indexes. Besides UV-protected sunnies, Le Specs also offers polarized lenses that reduce reflections and improve clarity so you don’t strain your eyes.

We weren’t exaggerating when we said Le Specs has gained a cult following, especially when A-list celebs are rocking the eyewear pieces as a street style accessory. Think of some of the biggest names in the industry  Beyonce, Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner. Yup, all fans of Le Specs! American socialite, Olivia Palermo is a loyal wearer of the brand and you can find her in the Le Specs Air Heart sunnies at fashion week or on the gram. Kendall Jenner loves to rock 90s chic in the rectangle-framed Unreal style and Stranger Things actress, Sadie Sink, even sported the Outta Love sunnies for a magazine shoot.

You can bet that we’re proud to be the only stockist of Le Specs sunglasses in Singapore! With its versatile styles, the Le Specs sunglasses are great for both men and women (I mean, have you seen our fav Bieber couple twinning???) and there’s one for every face shape. We’ll help you find your own pair that fits your face shape with this quick guide.

Understanding Your Face

While choosing a sunglasses shape is always up to you and your personal style, you can narrow down the options by learning which styles complement your face shape. First, you gotta determine what your face shape is. Look out for the widest part of your face  cheeks, forehead or jaw? Is your jawline rounded, pointy or angular? Do you generally have a long or short face length-wise?

Other than your face shape, you also have to consider your head size. Sunglasses are meant to protect your eyes, so you’ll wanna find a style that covers the width of your eyes and this is determined by your head size. For example, if you have a large head, you may need to get a square-shaped frame to fully cover your eyes but if your eyes are closer together, a round frame will do. With that, let’s get down to the Le Specs styles that flatter your shape.

Round faces are widest at the cheeks and just slightly narrow at the forehead and jawline with a chin that stays in line with the jaw.

With all these curves on the face, the sunglasses you choose should have more angular lines to add definition and make the face look thinner. These sunglasses styles are usually square-shaped or shield sunnies. Remember to choose a size that covers your eyes to keep the UV rays away!

Square faces have an even width at the forehead, cheeks and jaw with a very angular bone structure at the jawline.

With all these sharp lines on a square face, rounded frames balance out the angular edges to soften your look. The best styles would be round and oval sunglasses or aviators.

Le Specs styles that suit square faces: Evermore, Swizzle, Teen Spirit Deux, Lost Legacy, No Smirking, Bandwagon, Work It

Oval faces have a soft roundness without the moon-like shape of the round face. It is more long than wide and your facial features should look pretty even.

Lucky for you, most frame shapes will complement the oval face but it’s best to go for a wider and oversized frame to balance the width of the face with the length. If the sunglasses are too small, it can make the face look even longer and narrower.

Le Specs styles that suit oval faces: Hey Hunni, Halfmoon Magic, Caliente, Resumption, Promiscuous, Unreal Quilted, Outta Love

Heart-shaped faces are widest at the temples and narrowest at the chin just like the tip of a heart.

With these face shapes, you’ll want to bring the attention away from the pointed chin to balance out the wide temples. This means you should choose a style that mimics your face shape  wider at the top and narrower at the bottom so the attention is on your eyes and not your chin. These styles are usually cat-eye sunglasses or aviators.

Rectangle faces are similar to the oval face structure but with a higher forehead and slight angles at the jaw. The face is long with straight and narrow cheeks.

Most styles fit the oblong face shape but as with the oval shape, it’s best to go for an oversized frame to shorten the face. The best sunglasses styles for this face shape should have high lenses and thick frames.

Le Specs styles that suit oblong faces: Veracious, No Biggie, Hypnos, Air Heart, Grassy Knoll
