You may have noticed we’re addicted to pattern – and colour – here at The WYLD Shop, so you can imagine the excitement when the latest drop from iconic independent label Nala Designs Malaysia arrives. The Kuala Lumpur-based founder of the brand, Lisette Scheers, is an undisputed queen of pattern and high-vibe colours – as a former art director and talented illustrator, all of her prints are hand-drawn, and inspired by a lifetime spent in Asia.
Every collection from Nala Designs has a story – and each pattern is unique, created by Lisette herself. We were last blown away by Nala Designs’ CNY collection, Sweet Sixteen, which included amazingly detailed cheongsams, wrap skirts and maxi dresses with prints inspired by her travels in Japan to celebrate her daughter’s sixteenth birthday.
For the Summer 2022 collection, Bloom State of Mind, we’ve been treated to a bright and happy colour palette of cobalt, green, red and purple, with a series of prints inspired by the flowers of Penang Hill and Kuala Lumpur. The collection spans maxi dresses, tiered skirts, bags and a Nala first – wrap trousers. But more on that in a moment.
By the way, did we mention The WYLD Shop is the exclusive stockist for Nala Designs in Singapore? Here’s a peek at the goodies we’ve brought in for you…
The tiered midi dress:
The aptly named Sunshine dress is pure joy: from the vibrant blue, to the flattering tiered style and pretty frilled straps, it’s midi dress perfection. And did we mention it has pockets? This print, which appears across several styles in the collection, is inspired by the crepe ginger flower – and this design is just made for twirling, doncha think?
Blue not your colour? The Sunshine Dress also comes in a more subtle ‘burgundy’ hue, in a print inspired by jacaranda flowers.
The ultimate shirt dress:
We say a shirt dress is a wardrobe essential for its sheer versatility: cinch it in with a belt to show off your silhouette, wear it loose when you want a more relaxed vibe, or wear it unbuttoned for some stylish layering. The Mandarin Collar Shirt Dress from this collection is one of the first pieces we reached for, and now we want everything in this shade of green.
The dress with retro vibes:
If, like us, you’ve been a forever fan of Nala Designs, you’ll know that founder Lisette Scheers has a thing for retro style and 1950s silhouettes. The boat neck, cap sleeves and flared skirt of the Classic Dress is classic Nala – here’s that jacaranda print we mentioned earlier, in a not-quite-navy shade of blue called Turkish Sea.
The wrap pants:
We’re into statement pants here at the WYLD Shop, so this brand new style for Nala was a unanimous YES for us. Available in both the jacaranda and crepe ginger flower prints, in eye-catching colours, the Wrap Trousers are one-size-fits-all with a flattering tapered ankle. Check out how we get the look below:
And here's how to wrap them...
The maxi skirt:
The tiered maxi skirt is having a moment, and rightly so. We find them universally flattering. Think you’re too petite for a maxi skirt? The shorties at WYLD look amazing in them – and yes, will even take them up by one tier if they have to. We’ve been swishing around in this skirt with a casual tee and taking it out for date night with a fitted top and stacks of jewellery.
The perfect top:
To complement your statement skirts and pants, of course there’s a top that’s just made for your look. The Light and Easy top by Nala Designs is just that – made from breathable cotton voile, in several complementary hues and go-with-everything white, you’ll be wanting one of these too.
We love the flattering cap sleeves and piping detail – it’s a subtle touch that shows the designer’s attention to detail. Here’s Lisette herself showing the complete look:
The fun shopper bag:
We‘ve been saying no to plastic for years, but now we’re also saying YES to bright and beautiful reusable shopping bags. Nala Designs’ Hoya shopper bag is made from luxe cotton satin featuring her iconic prints from the Bloom State of Mine collection – plus a lush flower over the top. We have six variations here, in colours such as turquoise and yellow to bright red and blue. Whether you swing it around for your shopping or use it to carry your lunch, shopping bags have never looked so good.
And here's a peek at the other side...
The men’s shirt:
The boys haven’t been forgotten: Nala Designs has re-released its classic Cuban-collar men’s shirts in this season’s prints. But we’re just going to come out and say it: we keep buying these as gifts for the men in our lives but end up keeping them for ourselves. The answer, we hear, is to buy two and go matchy-matchy. Are you game?
We think we look pretty good in them too...
